How to Connect Item 12 LinkedIn MCP to ChatGPT
· how-to
ChatGPT Developer mode lets you attach custom MCP servers to GPT-4o and GPT-4.1. Item 12's hosted LinkedIn MCP turns ChatGPT into a sales command center — search prospects, read inbox threads, move deals, and queue outreach without leaving the chat.
Prerequisites
- Item 12 account with LinkedIn connected in Settings
- MCP access token from Settings → ChatGPT / Claude / MCP
- ChatGPT Plus, Team, or Enterprise with Developer mode available
Step 1: Enable Developer mode in ChatGPT
Open ChatGPT → Settings → Apps → Advanced settings → enable Developer mode. This unlocks custom MCP app creation under Settings → Apps.
Step 2: Create your Item 12 MCP app
Settings → Apps → Create app (or Add MCP server). Use these values:
- Server URL: https://item12.com/mcp
- Authentication: Bearer token
- Token: paste your Item 12 MCP access token
- Name: Item 12 (or any label your team will recognize)
Step 3: Test LinkedIn CRM tools
Start a new chat with the Item 12 app enabled. Try: "List my Item 12 workspaces" then "Search LinkedIn for Head of Marketing at B2B SaaS companies in the UK — import the top 10." ChatGPT should call search_linkedin and saved_lists tools.
Best ChatGPT prompts for sales
- Morning inbox triage: list threads with no reply in 7 days from my Enterprise list
- Pre-call brief: pull notes, pipeline stage, and last 5 messages for [LinkedIn URL]
- Bulk enrich: find contacts missing email in my event list and enrich by profile URL
- Pipeline hygiene: list deals stuck in Contacted for 14+ days with open tasks
Does ChatGPT need mcp-remote?
No. ChatGPT connects directly to the remote Streamable HTTP MCP at item12.com/mcp. mcp-remote is only for local stdio clients like older Claude Desktop configs.
Can ChatGPT send LinkedIn messages automatically?
MCP can queue sends, but Item 12 requires human review before any LinkedIn message, invite, or post goes live — same guardrails as the web app.
